The Sleeper Awakes

Description

My entry for the latest IFX forum competition, "the sleeper awakes". King Arthur has returned, to defend Britain in the hour of its greatest need. Perhaps he thinks that what he has found is not worth saving.

This is the drummer in the band that I play in, he is called Arch, and is the basis of my picture of Arthur. The picture was taken by a friend of mine called David Reid, and I have his full permission to use it.( the picture of myself that is on my deviantart homepage was taken by him at the same gig.

Here is the whole band. (Though Arch is obscured by cymbals).

This is the picture of London that I used in the artwork, taken by my wife, on a river trip on the Thames.

This is a picture of me taken on the same trip.

The Knotwork on the Helmet and sword, are vector artworks done by myself, they were originally for use on our band website, and I borrowed them for this piece.
They were copied originally (by hand) from a book entitled "Celtic Design - A sourcebook of patterns and motifs" written by Iain Zaczeck published in 1995. The book in its own words "is an outstanding comprehensive sourcebook for all designers, artists, art students and art historians.

Any other work in the picture was done by hand, (or rather Wacom Tablet). Also if anybody is interested in the whys and wherefores of this picture, here is a link to the IFX forums whre it took part as on othe entries to the monthly competition "the Sleeper Awakes"

Hi Colin
These are excellent pictures I don't remember you being artistic but it was a long time ago. They are all brilliant and thought provoking. I presume that they are all done digitally. Forgive my ignorance as I have no idea how to paint digitally and don't understand the principles! actually it took me 3 hours just to load up 4 pictures on here myself (done in the traditionally way I have to add, and have probably no place on a site like this). Anyway once again your pictures are truly fanastic I will be showing them to my friends.
